After screwing the seats back onto the chairs and moving it all inside the house I took the leaf out and got this.

REFINISHING PROJECT PART 6 chair saga

I only took a few pictures of actually painting the chairs. First they were primed using KILZ primer in a spray can. After they dried I sanded each one and they began to spray paint each one black.......... as such

REFINISHING PROJECT PART 5 table saga

After the base and trim were painted I put the table back together and stianed it once more except by the time it dried it looked as if I had just painted with brown paint. The wife did not like that, so I re-sanded it.....



Then came the staining again. I think it turned out nicely....

REFINISHING PROJECT PART 4 table saga

So the next step for the table was to paint the base and the trim of the table top. This whole process was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures with the KILZ primer I used. After I snaded it a little I just took it out to the yard and held a piece of cardboard behind the trim and started spraying with black spray paint and this was the result.




After the rim came the base of the table which was super easy. Afer cleaning it of any dust I just too the KILZ spray on primer and went to town with it. I see no reason to use the primer that you have to paint on with a brush , when spraying it only takes minutes.




Once the primer dried and I smoothed out some of the edges and rough spots, the fun began with painting it black.

FIRST ATTEMPTS AT WINE MAKING

I reckon it's time to introduce ya'll to some good ole' homemade wine that I made a while back, or at least what's left of it. So after doing some research on wine making I decided to make my first batch out of some cherries that my wife had in the fridge that weren't being eaten. It took a while to get all the seeds out and I made a complete mess, but the end result was very satisfying. After the 30 day ferment process I got a wonderful small amount of dark red wine. After my first successful attempt I got jumpy and bought a few peaches and filled almost a gallon of juice up. After the 30 day wait I got what you see in the picture below.

After some failed attempts of about 5 gallons of peach wine, I attempted a gallon of blue berry wine. I was very happy with the result. It came out nice and dark. I let my dad drink some when he came to visit. His review on it was that it was sweet and just a little thick. He like to pour it over ice and kept going back for more.

Soon I might tell you a few ways to make some wine or some interesting recipes that I've tried out. Like right now I'm trying a way to make wine on a whim and if it works as well as I think it will I'm going to have a good laugh and tell you guys all about it.-----------BOOTLEGGER OUT

REFINISHING PROJECT PART 3 table saga

I haven't posted in a while, mainly because I don't have a lot of time on my hands, but I will try more to keep updates. So the table was a big deal, like before the first picture you saw of the table was after I sanded it. Now enters me to start the staining.

As we did the first part of the table we wiped the rest off with a rag. ALSO I suggest the use of gloves because if you don't and some of the stain gets on you, it will stain your skin.....trust me I know.

So after a very short and painless process the table top was stained and is lookin' pretty darn good....yeah!!!! or maybe not.....

VINTAGE SHEET MUSIC SCROLLS

This has been something that I have wanted to do for a while and never really got around to getting it the way I wanted it until now.






At first the twine that was wrapped around each sheet was vintage, but the color just didn't go with what I was doing. The key that you see is an old skeleton key that I got from a garage sale. The best part of the scrolls is the tag that you see stamped with a sheet music design. I stamped other tags with red ink too. The cool thing about those tags besides the stamp that's on it is that I put them in homemade vanilla that my wife and I made. So the tag smells like vanilla for a while. REFINISHING PROJECT PART 2 seats saga

The first step was easy all I had to do was take three screws out of each chair and the seat came off.

Next came the eager and lovely wife to prepare with the dark walnut stain.

AAAAHHHHH..... the first stroke...

Once the seats were all said and done they looked like this............

Here are two completely stained and yes if you did notice those are old metal milk crakes holding the seats up

The Comic Idea

So a while ago I thought about making a website that taught a little bit of financial eduation and one way I thought about teaching it to the younger audience was to do it through comic stories. I figure I might as well show some one the comics. The only problem with actually having them made was that only two were made. The guy who made them never got back to me for the third one and the whole thing stopped. Maybe I'll find another comic artist one day and continue where it was left off. Enjoy








This was the rough draft of what me and my friend Ryan looked like. I thought I looked like Justin Timberlake.



This was the revision, man do I look angry.

This was what was made first after some revisions to colors, I got a real kick out of the new light bulb.

In the story line this would have come first, I liked both of them so I decided to show both.

And that was all I really got, I wish I could have gotten more, but the artist never got back with me. I did make my own character once about a crab. Maybe I'll show it in a later post. Bootlegger out-----------

REFINISHING PROJECT

I have to play catch up with this project. So my wife and I decided it was time for a new kitchen table. Along with this table comes new chairs. So to begin with the journey of getting these itmes comes the search of Craigslist. My wife went looking for chairs that were somewhat French Country looking. After a little bit of searching she found these chairs:


After getting these kind of chairs it was time to get a table. Eventually she found a claw foot table tha she liked and we drove like 3 1/2 hrs to get it and then another 3 1/2 hrs back. Unfortunately I didn't take a before picture. This is what it looked like after I sanded it.






Next up comes staining the seats.

BLUE BALL JARS

Today was an awesome day for finding a few things here and there. I met a guy at a garage sale who's main business is to get all the left overs from estate sales. What does he do with all these items you may ask? He sells them at a garage sale. The best part of this story so far is that he said I can go to his ware house and look through all his stuff. Enough about the garage sales except that I got 5 Pepsi one liters in great condition, to sell or not to sell or decorate with? That is truely the question. Now take a look at this picture here:

This picture of two blue Ball jars is the same picture that my wife posted on her Esty account, VintageFarmChick, today. I am posting this because she has wanted to have her own shop on Etsy and now she does. I am so proud of her. These jars are awesome, people these days are using them for decoration, which by the way we do to and they look great. I even saw some cool blue Ball jars that had solar lights put in them.

Also a little bit of history: Bootleggers use to use a lot of mason jars to transport their beverages. Rumors say that when bootleggers came across the jars that had a 13 on the bottom they would smash them because they thought it was bad luck. I hear that story is true and false. The First Step Is A Big Jump

So here is my first blog. It is verrry interesting. Yes. I hope you are enjoying it. Soooo, I chose the name Bootleggers Ledger for a couple of reasons. One I guess is because a while back I came across a wine making book called "The Bootlegger's Bible" and started making my own wine which is really cool once you understand what you are doing. Maybe I'll share a story about the process of wine making one day. The other reason for the title is because I see a blog as sort of keeping track of stories or events that happen in your life for people to share with the rest and Bootleggers would keep journals or ledgers of their progress with their alcohol makings. So this blog will be about all sorts of stuff like how my wife and I go to estate sales here and there and buy all sorts of stuff either to sell on her etsy shop or to decorate the house with. OH and by the way if you do take a look at her shop look for VintageFarmChick. So as you read this blog you will get some stories about vintage and estate stuff or maybe some wine or maybe just some randomness. Enjoy and have a glass of wine once in a while, apparently it's good for you or so I hear.
